Travel to Egypt with a fully escorted, small group (8-12), women-only deluxe tour. Treat yourself to five-star accommodations, a historic boutique hotel, and a 4-night  Nile cruise.  With our private Egyptologist, explore sacred sites and temples revealing Egypt’s fascinating past, and cruise the Nile River upon which Cleopatra sailed. Visit the NEW Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Learn about ancient mysteries and the lives of ancient Egyptian queens (and pharaohs too). Our journey includes Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea, Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan, as well as an excursion to Abu Simbel on the shores of Lake Nasser.   Enjoy an evening of conversation with local women and gain insights into life in modern Egypt.

Egypt travel itinerary:

GIZA 2 nights

Upon arrival in Cairo, a WanderWoman representative will welcome you at the airport.  You will be assisted with the visa process, immigration, and luggage retrieval.  Our representative will escort you to our hotel by private transfer.  Our adventure begins in Egypt at a beautiful 5-star hotel situated on an island in the Nile River in the Giza area of Cairo. This boutique-style hotel is connected to the mainland by two bridges and boasts stunning grounds, a spa, riverfront restaurants, and all rooms with views of the Nile. Enjoy a welcome reception with Egyptian specialties and orientation on our first evening while getting acquainted with fellow travelers. The following day, our sightseeing takes us to some of the most extraordinary sites in Egypt. We’ll visit Zoser’s step pyramid complex at Sakkara, designed by the architect Imhotep. Built in the 27th century BC during the Third Dynasty, it is the oldest pyramid built in all of Egypt. You will learn about the recently discovered Queen’s Pyramid and the Bent and Red Pyramids. After lunch, visit the famous Giza pyramids and Sphinx of the Fourth Dynasty, known as the “pyramid builders.” Optional camel ride and entrance into the pyramid of Khufu.

ALEXANDRIA 2 nights

This city, founded by Alexander the Great, is where Cleopatra made her capital and where Hypatia, the brilliant female philosopher, headed the Neoplatonic Academy. The famous Library of Alexandria is now lost, but the BIBLIOTECA (new Library of Alexandria) is a modern marvel not to be missed. Stroll along the harbor with its colorful fishing boats and Qaitbay Fort, where once stood a magnificent lighthouse, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Visit the occult site at Pompey’s PILLAR/SERAPEUM, the ROMAN THEATER, and the NATIONAL MUSEUM with an exhibit of the underwater finds of Cleopatra’s palace.  Our charming, historic hotel overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

GIZA/CAIRO  3 nights

We will return to our hotel in Giza. After checking in at our oasis on the Nile we will visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and tour its treasures with our guide. The following day, we’ll explore the Victorious city’s medieval history in the beautifully renovated Fatimid area and learn about the arrival of Islam in Egypt. Visit a beautifully restored home of the Ottoman period and see the women’s quarters, commonly referred to as the harem. Spend time exploring the neighboring famous Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. On our last full day in Cairo, we’ll visit Old Cairo with its alley-like streets, ancient Coptic churches, including the Hanging Church, and a synagogue.

LUXOR 2 nights

Flight to Luxor, the site of ancient Thebes.  After checking in at our 5-star hotel, spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring with your tour escort. Experience an evening visit to the TEMPLE OF LUXOR, beautifully lit up, and an option to visit the local souk (market). Next morning, explore the West Bank’s VALLEY OF THE KINGS & QUEENS, including the TOMB of QUEEN NEFERTARI (if reopened), the majestic temple of the female pharaoh HATSHEPSUT at El-Deir, and the COLOSSI OF MEMNON.

NILE RIVER CRUISE 4 nights

Begin the day early in the morning before the day’s heat with an optional exhilarating hot air balloon ride over the sites we visited the previous day. Transfer to our Nile cruise boat.  An elegant 5-star cruise boat will be our base for exploring the banks of the Nile River and its fascinating temples and monuments.  Visit the fascinating KARNAK TEMPLE COMPLEX on the East Bank.  The next day, sail to EDFU through the locks and tour the Ptolemaic temple of Horus.  In KOM OMBO, visit the Ptolemaic temple shared by the gods Sobek & Haeroris before sailing to Aswan. Docked In Aswan, visit the HIGH DAM and take a morning flight to ABU SIMBEL.  The impressive twin temples were originally carved into the side of a mountain by Ramesses II in the 13th century BC as a monument to himself and his beautiful queen Nefertari, whose name means “beautiful companion.”

ASWAN – 1 night

Disembark and transfer to our hotel, which is located on a small island in the Nile and is a short complimentary water taxi ride to town. Visit the NUBIAN MUSEUM, which covers all of ancient  Egypt’s history, including the Nubian, Pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic eras.  There will be time to explore the local souk (marketplace) for last-minute shopping.  Enjoy a scenic ride on a FELUCCA, a traditional Egyptian wooden sailing boat, at sunset—evening farewell dinner.

HELIOPOLIS-CAIRO 1 Night

Flight to Cairo.  Transfer to our hotel, located a short distance from the Airport, for our final night. After breakfast, the next morning, transfer to the airport with assistance to ensure a seamless departure.

Your return flight should be on 15 November.  Additional nights can be arranged.
